Products Designed To Be Used Not By Humans

I was asked an interesting question the other day and I am stumped by it. I was wondering if anyone here had any good ideas.

Have there been any products designed and made to be used that does not need any operation from a human.

For example, someone said, a dog lead. however, the clip is designed for the human to put it on the dog's collar and the handle is for the hand of the person.

ANY ideas? I know there are some clever people on here :)

Designed Products That Haven't Been Used.

So today I had a lecture and our lecturer asked us if anyone could think of a product that was designed and made but never used because it wasn't good enough. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

This isn't a question to cheat in an assignment or anything, I'm just curious and cannot find anything on the internet.
