Thedinomeister: Sketches And Renders

Recommended Posts

In my opinion, the wheels are not so good.

The direction of light should be emphasized.

Try to make the highlight in bold short lines,or increase the contrast a little .

P.S Loving your mechanical renders, you've got to take pictures of that book, and upload them for us please =]

As for the car sketches, I think the car renders were good but the drawings looked cartoonish. I thinik those were older designs because your marker rendering has really improved.

The digital stuff is fun, though personally I think it takes away from the drawings. I think your paper/marker (or even just pen stuff) is more enjoyable to look at then the photoshopped laser explosions.

I agree with cyberdemon, I think that a photoshop rendering thats not perfect looks cartoonish. A marker rendering thats not perfect is just another style developing through practice. In your case the marker renderings you did look more realistic than the photoshop.

Yes, I really agree.

The amateur photoshop effects really ruin what could otherwise be great drawings. the Propirus one, especially, the Ziggy one (like... water ripple effects? come on), and the latest one have all been destroyed from the photoshop work.

i want to see the originals pre photoshop effects

You are understanding perspective and drawing through, which are good things and hard to learn. Now, you need to loosen up. I think your drawings look labored with the hatching, I think think the linework should do the talking more so.

You are off to a good start, but I think if you collect reference of sketches that you like you can refine your technique and designs. I think Ryan Church and Feng Zhu are good resources to look at. If you are leaning more towards cars, then cardesignnews.com and www.cardesignfetish.com are also good resources. If you look through cardesignfetish's sketchp*rn or student work (example from the trans exhibition: http://www.cardesignfetish.com/images/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=665&g2_navId=x9a9fe838 ://http://www.cardesignfetish.com/imag...avId=x9a9fe838 ) you'll find plenty of hot sketches! Also, check out IDsketching.com.

Good luck with your progress!

YES, that's exactly what my professor said yesterday. I will do that, and believe me, it's hard for me to keep from adding some hatches here and there...and then get carried away as usual. But yeah, I'll back off that.

I saw a DVD by Ruan Church but it was all digital painting-- I'll look for his other stuff too. Haven't heard of Feng yet, but I'll check him out too.

Thanks for the comments and all of these sources!
