Dear all members,

I would like to organize a new Design Challenge, but this time I need some suggestions for a theme and prizes, which might make it easier for me to set this up in a shorter time.

Please check out the previous Design Challenges for reference. If you are someone who is interested to sponsor us with prizes, please let me know.

Any other suggestions and ideas are welcome!
Thank you for your support in advance :)

Kind regards,

Design a:
Portable washing machine for hiking.
Everyday Energy Maker (see hymini.com for example).

Prizes - A basic cintiq would be very nice indeed.
And again, a 3d Software license.

It would be fun to do a small space or multi-function furniture design contest. Seems like smaller pre-fab housing is a growing trend and it would be nice to have some cool pieces of furniture that "fit" in them.

As for prizes, I could use an Iphone.

Cosmetics, Aesthetics, and Styling should not be the purpose of this challenge.

It is not the purpose of design.

Just a fraction of the design process.

I wouldn't participate in a cosmetic styling project if we're calling this a/an product/industrial design challenge.

Innovation, manufacturing, aesthetics, function, features, sustainability, etc- there should be several categories to judge the design entries.

As any designer knows, everyone's eyes stick to the 'hottest looking' sketches during a review, 50% of the time, they are lacking of any value.

That being said...

-Keychain/Key Storage System/Keys

-Door Hanle - car or home

-Kitchen Oven

-Fire extinguisher

-Engine diagnostics tool

- office storage solutions (shelves, containers, file system, etc)
- next generation office workspace
- camera/photography
- Musicians; something to make it easier to compose, perform, travel with equipment...whatever else musicians do

- mp3/iPhone/sound system
- Software License
- Series of DVDs on Design/Sketching/Digital Painting....whatever else IDers crave

A modern typewriter.

The idea is that instead forcing kids at schools to use feature-packed laptops that are not suitable at all for general class use, a thin electronic typewriter incorporating modern technology would be used, which would allow the kids to type on the paper, and maybe even write on the paper just the same without removing it from a carriage. Or instead of using real ink, it could use the e-ink paper which is now being utilized in ebooks, but the idea being that its a very back to basics system sorta like the Psions of the 90s, and that it allows you to add hand written notes really quickly.

Truth be told, its better that schools wouldn't introduce any of this rubbish into schools, rather teach kids how to write accurately and in cursive

I suggest a themed mobile phone comp.

as brands rush to put their badges on a samsung or lg how about a handset designed aesthicaly to rep any brand?

what might a nike acg phone look like?
how about a true gucci handset?

the form factors and materials are the cues that define such a product - and the scope of imagination is limitless.

I've had my head in the clouds lately about a airship aircraft carrier for uav's. I've been watching a lot of the Military and History Channel, ya know the whole "modern battlefield" thing and all. That would be fun to do as a contest, would definitely up the scale from consumer products. Either way I'll be starting it soon as a personal project, I've got a lot of neat ideas for it.

Some other topic ideas are:

-future game console
-wireless headphones
-keyboard and mouse combo
-pda / cellphone
-laser rifle
(or variant: plasma, railgun, etc.)

for prizes, I would kill my grandma for a Cintiq. :lmao:
