Creating Documents With Adobe Indesign

Recommended Posts

Guest lufbrasketch

Has anyone had any experience with Adobe InDesign for creating a document containing a large number of pages?

I really hate using MS Word when creating documents with loads of images in, really really frustrating....so I was thinking about maybe using InDesign.

Cheers.

Yes, InDesign is great for that. It's basically Illustrator with multiple pages (but without the drawing tools), and you can easily create layouts to apply to multiple pages, control typography etc. If you know PS and AI, ID is going to be pretty easy to at least do basic layouting. Same hotkeys as well. Then just output the whole spread to PDF.

Depends on what you are doing though. ID is great for a portfolio or brochure, but I wouldn't write a report in it (Word).

Yes - the entire purpose of Indesign is a replacement to Pagemaker as Adobes desktop publishing software. Frankly I don't know how any designer can do a project book without it. I used to fumble around making 30 PSD files in Photoshop before Indesign. Then if I wanted to make a simple font or page layout change I'd have to do it in 30 seperate files instead of changing 1 setting on a master template.

Yah, I agree with the above comments. InDesign is pretty straight forward if you know how to use AI already.

The best part is being able to save the InD doc as a PDF and the when you're ready tp print, you only have to print once (just learn to do the whole "print every odd" page, flip, print evens, etc...).

Quite handy...
