watercolor renderings?

Recommended Posts

Guest wgc

Anyone using traditional watercolors for product renderings? Like the way architects do?

Any suggestions or resources?

Thanks! ;)

We have a watercolour elective at my faculty, but I didn't take it. To be honest I think it's way too timeconsuming to be practical. Perhaps for presentational renderings it could be cool though.

Ah, and I can't say I know of any resources. All I know is you need to work on a wet rough paper and make sure you use not too much pigment to keep the paint nicely transparant.

I have wondred the same thing. There is a Japanese artist named Yoji Shinkawa. He completed all of the concept work and sketches for the Metal Gear series of video games. He has a watercolor type feel, by over lapping tones to add transparancy. Beautiful work. In my mind he is at the zenith of concept sketching, All of his line work is done with a brush, not a pen. Very difficult but very dynamic.

Try a google search for "Yoji Shinkawa" or "the art of metal gear" to see examples.
