Solidworks World 2007 Presentation: Pimp My Render

Recommended Posts

Guest speckofdustin

I'm not a solidworks user, but is this light intensity setting a slider in the interface or is there somewhere to key in a number? mental ray should be able to handle this if the solidworks interface supports it. It is common to key in brighter than white (1+) values in Maya, for instance. One type of mental ray light shader in particular sometimes requires brightness values in the tens of thousands. Just a thought. Not sure if it applies or not.

Yeah- that would be nice. Its like having a Ferrari engine with Fiat controls and speed limiters. :D

I keep pushing Solidworks to have an "Expert" toggle for Photoworks with all the controls to Mental Ray ala XSI..

They keep resisting for some reason.

Hi Parel, thanks for this excellent presentation! So who are you of all the people sitting at your desk?

Some questions: is it still really necessary to have this studio assembly in Solidworks? Can't you just use a HDRI image to simulate a studio?

And how do you "copy the highlights onto a new layer in Photoshop" easily?

Why are there four spheres in the studio for the rim?

And would it be possible to see the full model of the shades?

Thanks! Daan

Unfortunately I was in China when that pic was taken:) So none.

I have not had luck with HDRI in Solidworks. There is no way to properly rotoscope a picture to a background matte.

It is more useful as a reflection map.

For copying colors Select>Color Range and pick the bright whites.

The four spheres are in there because it was previously difficult to keep a library of materials. I kept the spheres in the assy to have a body to assign materials to, so that a material would always be associated with the studio-not very efficient

I posted a full model on my blog- just look around there.

Oh, and another question...have you found a way to render with a nice soft shadow, but also transparancy?

Parel,

As Daan mentioned, the files are no longer available for download- could you re-link them!

Thanks much!

Were the files ever uploaded?

The sunglasses ones for study. Such as for a tutorial challenge?

I was wondering if you are using photoview 360 now parel or keyshot etc?
