3d Modeling Challenge - March 2007

Recommended Posts

Guest mcgreg

Number 1 is nice, but quite easy. A first attempt (~30min) resulted in this. The flexed boundary is a bit "hard" on the edges, but...

Number 4 is more a NURB design, which is a bit more difficult with SW...

3 is my number! I would like to see those surfaces being worked on!! :)

Nice McGreg!.

I think that all of them have a medium to high degree of difficulty.

For example,

#4: I bet that in SW you can do it with all the surface tools, just more work than usual!.

#6: Use of 3DSplines and sweep, but it has its tricks, just not to touch in space, and the trunk of the tubes is interesting..

#3: Excellent exercise on surfaces.

#2,#5 and #7: Interesting items. #2 has a lot of surfaces issues to accomplish. (#7: A lot of angled planes)

#8: Really a hard task! Double helix guide curves...

See you guys

4 - most difficult, would use all surfacing tools

8 - may look easy, difficult to setup and make it look organic

3 - typical ID stuff, looks simple but would show curvature mistakes

2 - blending fun, good tut for practice/students

5 - fun flow challenge, useful simple tut for practice/students

6 - typical mech auto design, solids but useful

7 - setup time but not difficult, solids

1 - the easiest, fewest features

so, which one, imho, in order of usefulness,.. 3, 2, 8 and 4.

Looking forward to learning from this, I'd like to see them all modelled eventually.

Wao!

We are going to do something different this time.

Just not to loose those nice postings of you guys.

In this thread we will finish the challenge (normally I would open a new thread for the challenge itself and erase the one with the poll, but then we will loose some god post here)

So let's start with the BLACK SEAT (clear winner)

Axelrod, you are a bullet!

ZXYS, impressive work!!

See you around.... CHALLENGE BEGINS. SO POST YOUR WORK...

My eye may be playing tricks on me, but it looks to me like this chair only has 3 legs similar to the elephant stool shown in this image search. Link

The more I look at it though I suppose that back right leg is just hidden from view maybe. This is a hard view to understand the form fully. Its definately four though. The vanishing points of the legs dont carry over to make it 3 legged. Pay no attention to my earlier thought :)
