Dear Evolve....

My general opinion is if every we read a person's biography..... its always realistic if we read the biography written by the same person....... if at all its written by other authors...... we are only reading exaggerated history... which is of no use or which finds no inspirations..... i think the feeling experienced by the same person cant be expressed by another author.

So the biography which i have read is 'My inventions' written by Nicolas Tesla which was on net for free......... i have got softcopy if you are interested you can mail me at b_manoje@rediffmail.com i can send you the same.....

Believe me whenever my feelings are down during work i spend some time reading it.... it really makes me feel i have not achieved nothing and makes me to give my 100% and work harder...........

Regards

Great topic!

My favourite is:

"An inventor is someone who sees what everyone else sees, and thinks something different"

But I can't for the life of me remember who wrote it. Any ideas?

That guy says some VERY inspirational stuff in his songs. Not your typical radio hip hop, very relaxing (To me) to listen to.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therfore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

When I see somone (normally a non designer) sees a new program to assist them to draw/design/model. And they think they can now design:

DO YOU KNOW THERE IS A NEW PROGRAM THAT CAN ALLOW ANYONE TO WRITE AWARD WINNING MOVIE SCRIPTS, ITS CALLED MICROSOFT WORD!!-Me about six weeks ago

Ornamentation is but a small boat upon a dangerous Sea

(Le Corbusier) Err.. I think

Great people talk about ideas

Ordinary people talk about things

Stupid people talk about other people

A product may be a word in an essay.

Adding another object is not always the answer.

Advertising is design’s spin doctor.

Branding camouflages substance.

Change is good for the soul.

Creativity cannot be taught.

Design education is a life skill.

Every design has a political undertone.

Form without content is waste.

Freedom is slavery, especially within design.

In the mind, a design is never finished.

Independence encourages audacity.

It is a luxury to have time to create.

Marketing is design’s pimp.

Movements decay into styles.

Patenting allows ideas to be imprisoned.

Perfection creates waste.

Post-Modernism was a necessary evil.

Preoccupation with objects is unhealthy.

Pride in ideas obstructs progress.

Providing more choice is a smoke screen.

Real value doesn’t evaporate after purchase.

Resistance to trend is commendable.

Signature styles reveal vacant minds.

Solving artificial problems is cowardly.

There is humanity in mis-use.

Utopia is the only honest starting point.

With volume comes responsibility.

"If we both think exactly the same, one of us isn't needed here." - on design team diversity.

"Being good is harder than being original." - actually a paraphrase, I think it's Corbu originally.

"Less, but better." - That's Dieter Rams, but I liked the Einstein one above about simplicity; same idea.

"I didn't have time to write you a short letter, so I wrote you a long one instead." - some old author, I'm too lazy to Google. Same intent as above, it's really hard to make things simple and effective, so we tend to make them overly complicated.

"Any product that requires an instruction manual is poorly designed." - a saying we use in design school. Be intuitive.

Stay awesome.
