Hello all
looking for a solid modeling package that will run on an average home computer....
vista home premium (not ultimate) bog standard ati graphics card (not quodro or whatever the standard is these days) 2gb of ram etc etc
what im looking is something in a similar vein to pre dassult systemes solidworks (when it used to run on any old computer!)
I just want to model fairy simple shapes (tho more complex than possible in sketch up) and get decent looking but simple renders
any ideas?

I could use a surface modelling package but havent used one for ten years.. do they need monster pc's?
also have they made them easier to use ? rhino made my head ache back then :(

thanks in advance for any input :)

I run Solidworks 2007 from a Toshiba with ATI onboard graphics and 2 gigs of RAM. Prior to that, I was running it on an old Gateway with a 1 GHZ processor and 1 gig RAM. That even still allowed me to do Photoworks renders and complex, surface intesive assemblies. I would go with Rhino if you are in the market. It seems to have more intuitive surface generation capabilites, and a decent renderer. It still has the abilty to handle the typical "engineering" challenges as well(bolt circles, etc.). Just my 2 bits.
