I Need A Bit Of Help !

Recommended Posts

Guest phomiffy

hey!

its my first time writing in the forum

i find very interesting this site, but its a shame i found it only a few days ago

i was wondering if you could help me a bit, and give me some advise for my studies because im pretty confused

i just finished school and until next week i have to choose the university i would like to go to.

im between an architecture course and a product design course (in Syros/Greece).

my main question is : would i have a more wide range of choises after i've studied architecture, and would i have more skills after this course? do you believe that it would be better to do a product design course after this one?

Or should i go for the product design one, from the start?

its just that i dont really know what i want to do in the future excactly... would the product design course from the start, restrict my choises afterwards??

i would be very happy if you could give me some advise and let me know your opinion on this. ;)

Hi, neighbour! (I'm from Bulgaria). I'm just as confused as you.. i mean i was... oh, what i'm trying to say is that before i decided that i want to study PD or ID (this was about a month ago) i was thinking of studying architecture. My parents wanted that and i was OK.. i thought that architecture is what i have to do since i'm good at math and i can draw (not perfect, but i have some talent), but what missed me was the passion.. and i think that is important. And when i decided PD/ID i was googling around and found many people who gave up architecture and went to PD/ID. The main reason was because they wanted to see the product of their work and when you're an architecture this is not quite easy. "I prefer designing pencils and being able to say "I made this!", not being an assistant of sb"

Yep.. I see what you mean.. the psychology of it is indeed the most important part of it. Well, I whent for architecture. I dont know if it was a good choice or not cause its too early yet. Anyways. Thank you very much for letting me know your opinion on this. :) Its nice to hear you are a neighbour :)

Hello guys! I would like to advise you that if you are deciding the subjects on the basis of demands then both have superb scope but in different field and can differ from country to country so i would like to tell you to look around the your local market. Only that analysis will give you right idea. as far as product designing field is considered I think that basic skills required in it includes generating creative and innovative ideas. Being a product designer you should be able to do research about your product and should also be able to understand popular marketing and manufacturing trends of the industry. If you think that you would love to watch yourself doing these kinds of things then go ahead, product design field can be yours. At last what is more important that choose a subject according to your capability not according to your needs because if you will your self as specialists in a field then nobody can stop you? I personally think this.
