Running Shoe Prototype

does anyone have experience creating cheap functional prototypes of shoes? i am designing a running shoe and i want to create some type of wearable mock-up which will test the features. the shoe cannot be made from a normal running shoe last, because it is designed to be shaped differently. i was thinking about carving my own crude last to use for fitting, patterning, etc..

any ideas?

Best thing to do is get a mannequin foot and start wrapping it.

Have you thought of using plaster to make your own last?

 

Alternatively you can start from an existing last and use car body filler and wood to add volume.
