lol, sketchy, I like what your teacher said. Yet, putting a hot girl beside a car is like.. a form of advertisement isn't it?

----------------------------------------------------

so, scorpio, sketchy said most of the things I want to say already, but there are a couple more.

I bet you've checked out the Mikedesign person that recently posted on this forum right? if not, here is the link

http://www.productdesignforums.com/index.p...10946&st=15

you, or actually we all do, need to see where HIS level was at when he was in university. First year? second year? Is he improving, etc etc. I am not saying everyone has to be as good as him, but we should try to be close. I even believe I could probably render certain things better than him when I am done college. (in 4 years.. )

So, ya. good to look at where others are at.

1. shouldnt my website be an extenstion of my work, (meaning it, in itself is showing i know how to do HTML, Flash and website design ?) also im a student who will be leaving Universty in about a years time, so shouldnt my website Be "Flashy", and "yea .. Look at me" becuase il be trying to get jobs, (as long as it dosent come across as "Yea look at me, im big headed about what i do"). where as im aiming for the "hay look at me, stop and look at my intresting website" (rather than a plain old boring one)

It is the good design that makes people hire you.. I think. I believe your website will be looked at a million times, but that is not gaurenteeing you a job.

take coroflot for example, everyone has the exact same layout, nothing special. When you go into sites like that, your skill, your ideas, your background, even yourself starts to stand out more.

www.coroflot.com <--- I think that's it, look if you havent.

i also dont feel i have the time to sit back and just practice my art skills all day untill they are up to par even tho i know i need to improve. what im trying to say is, that i need to do both at the same time. (both practice and improve, and, working towards finising universtity, my website and geting a job)

that is alot to practice man, good luck.

I don't think it is a matter of time, it is more like YOU HAVE TO work on those skills until they are up to par. I believe that people who are willing to spend the time are going to be successful, not necessairy the ones with talents.

also, when you practice, you will improve for sure, so.. that is only one thing really. Unless by improving, you mean you are learning a new thing like website design, because that is not improving, its just expanding your skill and knowledge.

good luck man ^^ last year!!

p.s. you said you are looking for a job, what type of job? I mean, are you already looking for a job of a designer when you are not even off school yet?

hay,

the job thing is a "work placement" where i work with a company for a year to gain experiance and to learn from them. i do this between the end of my 2nd year, and before the start of my 3rd year. its part of my course at university, but its not compulsery. but from talking with Past students and tutors they strongley advice to do it becuase students who took the year out learned around 2 years worth of knoledge in 1 year. over the students who stayed and went straight into 3rd year.

hope that makes sence.

p.s. - what you guys think of the car sketchs i had uploaded. i know there not fantastic, but i was wondering if there had been any improvment or anything ?

hay guys,

still awaiting feedback on the latest car sketchs i did in my pervious post's on page 8. (i know there not great but would still love some feedback on them)

on another note.

i have a block of Super Sculpty polymore clay sitting here on my self for about a year now, i have no real use for it for University. i had bought 2 slabs of it a year ago thinking id need 2 blocks to make my character. i ended up only needing the one, so like i said its just siting on my self gathering dust.

so it leads me to saying ... i think i might use it to create a Terminator Skull, hopefully if it turns out really well, il add extra details to it like a red LED for the eyes. and do my best to paint it professionaly with metal paint finish.

here is a page from "Terminator Salvation - the official movie companion", Tara Bennett.

about those cars... No offense but there's some lack of creativity there... I mean what were you thinking when you did those cars... ? perhaps at rocks...? It's obvious that you made them quick... A hint... Try to be more "pretentious" when it comes to showing your work... remember... only 1 of 5 sketches of mine manages to appear on the forum... and add some passion... hope you get me...

terminator skull, haha, so cool XD GET GOING AT IT NOW, I WANT TO SEE!

okay, since you asked for car comments like 2 or 3 times already..

I am going to leave creativity apart, since... I find it really hard myself to create something that is nice when my drawing/rendering skills doesn't support me.

Maybe gringoire sees the lack of creativity, which I agree and disagree at the same time, I see a lot of understanding and techniques problems.

that bus on the first page with the "W" at the front is probably the only one that doesn't or have thoe least perspective issue, and I think it is because... it's basically a box. So if you find boxes easier, why not form all your cars from boxes and rectangles?

one important thing to do is to really use guidelines ( don't be like me, i've forgotten to do so alot, thats y my cars sux), don't even add in any lineweight until it looks right.

and you have weird lineweight. Watch out for that, they really have to make sense to look right.

and then ellipses..... lines.. all that, many things you need to work on.

but i really hope you can start from the lines and curves exercises, because they are the most basics! When you do those ALOT for simply... lets just saay 4 to 5 days, dam you have improved so much, those car sketches will look CLEAN. Also, you can try drawing alot of boxes on different perspective.

good luck,

i cant even draw cars, so i was just going for basic form to start with.

i just wanted to know if the basics where in place.

oh... well why didn't you say so..? If you want to start drawing cars... then you should be aware that it's very difficult... if you don't get the basics and train regularly ... you won't be able to do this... at first... try to draw a car that you've seen or look at one and put it on paper... you'll notice it's really hard... after this scan the car really good and spot all details... how the shape changes when moving around it... watch out for the wheel perspective... and practice... once you can basically understand a car and see it's lines and how they go together... you can start to be creative...

Id say, use the terminator skull as inspiration and dont copy it.

cuz rite now it looks like a cartoon skull

I especially like the way its looking in the bottom left and bottom right of the last picture you posted.

maybe you can make it into earthworm jim?

haha keep it at it.

looking forward to its completion

hahah earthworm Jim. i guess it does look like him right now.

look its still really early days so give it time. it prob wont look anything like a terminator skull untill i get all the main features in place. cook it to harden it, then i can carve in the major details like teeth etc

hay guys, long time since my last reply,

heres a little update into what ive been up too since i got home for summer.

i got my results for the coin sorter, the animation & website projects i had been working on for University semester 2.

for animation i got - 72 which is a high grade to achive.

for coin sorter i got - 73 again is a high grade to achive.

for website i got - 62 which is amazing saying the tutor only turned up to teach 3 out of 12 weeks.

so im really pleased with the results. 70 and above in the UK is classed as a 1st class work.

ok so the next bita news is that i got an internship in a design company for 3 months during the summer, just until september (cuase then i gota go back to uni and do my final year). i have been designing and updating websites so far and they have been impressed at my work. there is no Pay, but its my first proper design related job so the fact that im gaining experiance and will be able to put it on my CV at the end of it is awsome.

im also moving out of parents house for good, and moving into a place of my own with my GF so i have been super busy trying to find the right place to rent. but i found a place and its a steal so im over the moon with that too. going to convert one of the bedrooms into a mini art room/studio slash, computer office style room :P so that should be cool.

the last bita news i have is that, i own a set of Logitech Z-5500 5.1 digtial speakers, only 8 months old. the other day the Blue LCD backlight died out, i found out logitech had produced a faulty batch, so i have been emailing them to tell them my problem, and to replace my Control pod as speakers and Sub are working perfectly. they said no problem, we will send out replacement free of charge. turns out in the email they sent with the tracker number of the parcel it comes to 27.5KG. so i work that out as being a complete full set replacement, contol pod, speakers, and sub !! :) free of charge so im also over the moon about that cause i have now 2x fully working sets of Logitech Z-5500
