Elastic Cords For Epoxy Impregnation?

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know whether there exist slightly elastic cords which are available in different colours and suitable for epoxy impregnation? The ropes I found were not very absorbent and limited in colour.

I would like to use the same cord in it's pure form (elasticity) and in it's impregnated form (strength), both in the same product. In the worst case I'll have to combine regular rope with springs, rubber or something similar.

Thanks in advance!

hey

can't say I know of any elastic cords that have been used for fibreglass or composite. The issue would be that elastic cords change dimension when they are pulled/bent/stretched, and depending on the thickness or strength of the epoxy, you would get cracking and delaminating. that's just a guess.

it may be possible, if you find the elastic cord you need, just try applying the resin and see what happens.

The main issue is that most elastic cords aren't absorbent enough.

Does that even exist; elastic absorbent material?

If it does I can do a test.

If it doesn't than a spring attached to the rope's unimpregnated side might give it some sort of elasticity?
