    Offsetting In Solidworks

Can anyone help! I am currently modelling a cross section of a solar PV cell in Solidworks. I need to add a layer of dye to the surface of the nanoparticles (the blue bobbles). how do i offset a surface/solid to get get this layered effect - the effect will look like the shell on an M&M/smarties chocolate. The idea is to do a further cross section through the object at some point. Let me know if you don't understand what i am trying to say!
  2. Hi Guys! We are offering a Free desk for a freelance designer at our 3D print studio on Brick Lane in exchange for 10 hours work a month - that's about 2 hours a week! Here is a basic page with the office and facilities - www.mak3d.com This is limited to 2 months to start with, but could go on if it works - this is more of an experiment! You will be able to carry on your job as a freelancer, but with the benefit of having a top of the range 3D printer next to you and use of a 3d scanner as well. Basically no lead times and cheaper rates too, as well as free desk, internet and like minded company. Also, if you do more than your 10 hours, you will be paid. I run 3dprintuk (www.3dprint-uk.co.uk) and have freelance jobs almost every day that I cannot complete. I'm looking to get a designer in so that they can help me out in return for me helping them out. These projects are varied, awesome and bizarre sometimes, and range from personal projects to major globally recognized brands as well as TV and film. I want someone in house as this is the best way to get things done quickly. We have high speed internet, the bagel shop opposite, other 3D designers, 3D printer and 3D scanner, and loads of fun stuffs! We are looking for someone who works with solidworks or similar to do more technical design rather than digital sculpting on 3Dsmax or alike, but all may be considered - it more about having a can do attitude! Please let me know if you are interested by email only - nick@3dprint-uk.co.uk We have some people interested already so be quick! In the email, please include a link to some of your work - this is important as we will not consider anyone without a portfolio! Please note that this is not a job, more of a freelance opportunity! Looking forward to hearing from you

  5. Hi, I run a company called 3dprintuk. I am currently Oxford based, but am looking to move to london. I am looking to find some fellow young designers to open a studio with. The basis is that it will be a fun, creative environment where we can create products and develop ideas together, for cheaper rates that joining a co-working environment. I'd like to start this sometime in Easter or early summer. We will have an in house 3D printer (Objet 30) so we can make Our ideas real in house for cheaper, but I will remain running my 3D printing bureau independently as well. I feel with enough young energy together we can create products together and quickly, with the possibility of creating our own company designing our own things as well as a designing for other people - Kind of like what Quirky do in the UK, though with a more UK feel. I am looking for creative young people who will be willing to lay down at least £250-£300 per month to start with and we can see where we can do from there. I'd love to be able to design fun unnecessary things for people - novelty items, but at the same time be able to produce usable products. I am looking for people preferably with some design experience, so they know how to run things and not make a joke of the whole job, but I still want to have fun in the process. It is about being able to work with people rather than how well they can do there technicalities (welll...there's a aballance needed.) Ideally I'd be looking to team up with existing freelancers. Please let me know if you are interested and show me some of your work/tell me your thoughts. I have very strong links with Gizmodo UK,so any geeky gagdty designers out there can be marketed easily I'd be looking to get an office in the Old Street or Clerkenwell area, but am open to suggestions. My website is www.3dprint-uk.co.uk The problem is that 3D printing is still expensive to do no matter how hard you look. What I try to do is advise people on their design so that it can be optimised to make it far more affordable. message me on the contact us page an I'll see what I can do for you - I'm here and I don't bite.
