So I will start it off. "Apple" So the next person who posts must draw something that starts with the letter E. Please make sure to write out what your object is, so that there is no confusion as to what the word is and what letter it ends in. Thanks and be creative!

Nature's Design - Some Sketches Of Animals
Sketchyd replied to Will's topic in Sketches & Renderings
I do animal drawings as well. You don't need to have the same style, but I think you should practice looking at what makes the bigger picture. Start by lightly blocking in the shapes as I mentioned earlier. By doing so, you arent just drawing what you see on the outside, you begin to understand why it looks the way it does. You should also take a look at animal skeletons and draw those out in your sketch book. -
a short hiatus. new ingredients and new info will be available next monday!

Hi guys, First off, I got Waikit's approval to promote my new site called "ingredients." So what is ingredients? Ingredients is a daily (12AM - 1159PM) sketch challenge site where you will be given specific design constraints to design and ideate with. Unlike most challenges where you are given a product and problem and is up to you to decide what it's features are. With Ingredients, you will be given the product, the problem, AND the feature you must use. (Other ingredient types will be introduced at a later time) The first ingredient is available for preview on the site and you may start posting your ideas starting July 4th, 2011. New ingredients will be posted at 10pm the previous day, so that participants may get a preview before the next challenge. Making your brain work in a new way. Every participant is given the exact same product, problem, and feature to implement. Due to this, your concept will vary on how you mix and implement these ingredients together. For example, your ingredients maybe a shoe(product), boring/time consuming(problem), and wheels(feature). Person A may look at these ingredients and think I'll design rollerblades! Person B may think rollerskates. But Person C, may see something unique and come up with the idea for Heelys. The only rule is that you MUST USE ALL the ingredients provided for that day. Ingredients site: http://dailyingredients.tumblr.com/ How to Participate Simply click on the UPLOAD link at the top to submit your idea/design. Image Size Due to tumblr restrictions, your images cannot exceed 500px wide. Please resize all images to the correct width when posting.

@Will The only funkiness I see, is the shadow on the egg. What actually needs to be redone is the idea of uploading a clean sketch. Take the photo with either a better camera or a scanner, keep still to avoid blur, and maybe resize your images so its doesn't take up the whole screen. @Crichton Can you pinpoint to inaccuracies? Will's sketch seems to be 1 point perspective with ellipses that seem to be spot on. And the linework, I can't judge due to the blurriness of the image.

Nature's Design - Some Sketches Of Animals

These are all very nice, but you are drawing them in an illustration style. Try drawing them in a more product design ideation style. In other words, instead of drawing the outline of the animal, try to identify the basic geometric forms. For example, the head of the swan is a spehere, the neck is multiple cylinders and so forth. -
Thursday's ingredients are up. gdluck have fun.

Preview tomorrow's ingredient now!

Good News everyone, you no longer need to pm me your email address to contribute to the site! Simply click on the UPLOAD link to submit your idea/designs for each challenge!

Seems like you are pretty good at coloring, im curious to see your drawings before you render them out, only sketch lines.

Click to enter, logo is cool, but the page isn't very appealing. Once I enter the page, the icons for creation, projects, and personalia are a bit ambiguous. They all look the same, and they remind me of trashcans... or a bird. Click on creations, your text is "justified," this looks odd, what was your reasoning behind this? I dont want to have to click on a blank box to see what the project is. And because it's blank, it looks like an error and the images aren't loading. I'm not really sure what brandmark means, which makes me wonder what the difference between the 3 sections are. Theres alot of blue... not really feeling it. Its a bit frustrating that I need to click many times to actually get to see the content. Think of it as a first draft and try again. If you are coding this yourself and aren't very good, try looking into free portfolio sites, theres alot out there. For example: carbonmade.com

Since it is current, existing items, it might be be better for the poster Crichton, to have a few examples of the challenge. Simply link some photos so people can attempt to draw it. That way its less work for participants which will be easier to participate.

Are the cement blocks part of your design? Because they are far too distracting and takes the focus off of your projects and onto the blocks.

Social Innovation Via Open-Source Design?

Not sure if this answers your question, but check out quirky.com. It's like design collaboration, just click it to learn more about it. -
Good job in adding tire, but now im sure you can see it as well. The wheels look really off, as well as the tire. Also, you have no wheel wells, so although u have drawn the tire, it looks nothing like a wheel that is part of a car. It just looks like a flat drawing slapped onto the side of the car. Finally, it's a common style / technique I see that even I am guilty of using. But unless your wheels are truly sticking out from the side of the car, the wheels wouldnt show up as you have drawn it. Basically, fix the wheels and your car sketches will be taken to the next level.
-
Great sketches and linework, and much improvement. My only gripe: the wheels. It's ruining all your sketches. Do a proper ellipse\, show some indication of a tire and do a full fender and wheel well, no more of your pinwheel like wheels. It's not a style when it's wrong.

Great range, I was originally gonna say, lay low on the sketchiness of it, as it felt too rough, but then the last one shows that you can do both styles. I like how you showed the interior in the 4th one. Although, i'm not sure I would want my lower body to be shown like that, haha.
-
I would never have guessed that... You should at least have one page communicating teh concept as to how you got to your final design. As it is nothing more than a pretty rendering atm.
-
Cool rendering. But what's the concept? I'd like to know the thinking behind the design and what the context of your phone is, where would this noma phone be used and how?
-
@lokilabs. If you mean pressure sensitivity, then yes.

What are the Multi Purposes?

I want to see a full on side view, front, back, and 3/4 view rendering of your final design.

Hi everyone, I have been thinking about hosting a regular competition here on our forums. These competition would be extremely short, either 1 week long or 2 weeks long at the most. However, they will be full projects that require the full design process which means, each entrant must show and state the problem > the process which includes ideation sketches, research, and specific points you would like to address > and finally the concept and solution. These competitions are open for all members of PDF and would be beneficial to all who participate, as you may come up with concepts that are worthy of putting in your portfolio. These projects will be a bit different and will not be your typical design this or that type of projects. Instead, they will help you to be more creative and approach different problems in new and unique ways. Again, these competitions are for PDF members only. By making it exclusive to our members, I hope that it will help our members to learn more about each other, their interests, theirs strengths and weaknesses, and be able to critique and help each other in a more personal and benefiting way than just "wow, that is a cool sketch.' There will be no right or wrong concepts for these competitions, so please feel free to enter all of them. After the end of each competition, there will be 1 week of discussion. During this week, each entrant should comment and critique another entrant's work, the more the merrier. I believe that this idea of discussion time will bring a new level of information to all entrants as to what people liked, didn't like, could be improved, was fun, interesting, mind-blowing, etc. that has never been available in design competitions or forums before. At the end of each competition, we will have a voting session. We will not be voting on who's idea was the coolest or best. But instead, we will vote on who's work best addressed the competition brief in a new and exciting way. So, that pretty much wraps up my idea of a competition that I would like to start up here on PDF. So please leave some suggestions and feedback. Thank you.

There are many more options than just simply Wacom branded products and toshiba. You might want to look at Slate PC's as well. Youtube or Google Motion Computing Le1600 or Le1700, its expensive when bought new but is very affordable if bought used on ebay. Google: Slate PC
