    Scorpio.tn1 Work

mm, i sence a lack of faith in my drawing ability. its due in on Tuesday, 12th May. im in my 2nd year. --- just a note, i love the advice everyone gets here, and im perfectly fine with taking crit's it doesnt knock me down. i just think that sometimes that on these Forums the bar is set at a very high standard. i agree i have no "Feild experiance" and a few my drawings look bad. but i can only improve .. right ? :S i think that becuse your not able to see all the work together as a whole some sketchs alone look like crap. Im from the UK by the way if that helps.. im not sure if the work standard in other countrys is set alot higher ? i know i have a lot to improve apon. but that being said i always score the highest in my class for Charater and Product/industrial design releated projects. in first year for Introduction to 3D - character design, where i had to build that clay model etc. i scored a 64/100 which was the higest grade for the class. only 6 marks short of a "1st" ( if your unclear of UK univerisity grading system il be happy to explain) for second year / sem.1 i scored a 59 which is a drop in marks, and wasnt the highest in the class but i was among the top 5 people a 67 being the highest. i lost marks on some presentation issues. and some more development was needed. (i feel i could have scored alot higher for the project if i was to tacle it again ) for second year / sem.2 im working on this coin sorter project, with one to one tutoring and being able to talk to my tutor he seems to really like my work, he loves that i tackled the coin sorter in a cup idea. and i think he wants me to take it to the next stage privatley once the project is complete. im expecting a high 60 for this project. im not so worryed about the drawing at this point but the fact of actually building creating an actuall prototype model to show. another think id like to metion is that my couse is not just dealing with issues with product / I.Design. its quite a broad based course teaching skills in, animation, graphic, 3D, imagemaking, typographic, multimedia design, drawing. --- i love all the advice i get here, i want it to keep coming, i want to learn and get better at what i do. i think one the problems i have is i dont explain enough what i upload to you guys to view. sometimes tho i get the impression that you guys think that my work is on par with a 4 year old ... :S hopefully you guys can help me up my game !! thankyou for all your time guys.

    Taro's Sketching & Rendering

i like the layout of the earphones, i think having them development sketches to the right is fine. but if you where to edit the center image with colour or a 3D model rendering it would stand out more.

aw, thought i was onto a winner there perhaps i should have cleared up a few issuses. ( the JCB Thermo Flask , came about from the drawings for the coin sorter, its a failed design that i thought would work better on its own as a Thermo Flask " Built for Builders Brew" it would be a rugged Thermoflask for construction sites. created with Black rubber, plastic and metal's it has an angled top to it, (not flat ), not sure if viewers can see that or not :s you say its looking Flat , can you show me how to make it stand out please ?? --- this is a project ive been working on for a while now. its another Uni project and the final hand in date is in less than a week. the whole point was to create a "gravitional coin sorter" ive got Shed loads of sketchs trying to work out form, mechinism, function, who to market it too, price, materials it will be made from, the sound it will make when in operation. ive also built test models and i have certain aspects working. here are the issues ive had to address from my reaseach. 1. Hopper - user can dump a handfull of coins into 2. orintation of coins - geting the coins from a lump to roll on there sides one after the other 3. sorting of each coin - spliting the coins into groups ( 8 coins in total ) 4. holding chambers per coin - sorted coins sotred in stacks / chambers 5. collection of desierd coins. i have lots of different designs i could have gone done. but ive stuck with the Coin sorter in a cup idea because i think it will be highly marketable. it will look like a noraml coffee cup, and as you deposit a handfull of coins in the top, they will be sorted into 8 chambers, then with a simple twist action the user can pick and retrive the coins of there choice. when i have more time after my Uni Hand-in dates il upload the development work etc. if you wana know more about it, just ask

i had ment to get back to this comment, i had wanted to say that i was in discussion with my tutor and she liked it. i think also that the nearby city its quite a rough city in the wrong areas, lot of teenage gangs, lots of Griffiti and mourals on the side of houses etc. so i was hoping the griffiti style website would reach out to these younger kids, its something they will engage with instead of thinking "Aw F*@K this website its a load of Sh*T" that they will appriciate it hopefully without them knowing they will learn a bit about the city they live in etc. Also the artwork for the website will be done in a tastefull way (no naughty stuff) that it will still be ok for young kids and even the older generation to come and check it out. its more of an interactive website with little animations and sounds going on to engage the viewer, to get them involved and less on the hard facts . THIS THIS AND THIS. you would see on other goverment run websties were everything is grided out and slapped on your face as you read. with my design the user will want to delve deeper into the site. -- thanks for the statment you made about my cartoony drawings, its nice to know i have a Unique style when it comes to animation.

Cheers , im glad you like it. in the early stages i dont think u liked it as much. I think it all came together in the end tho. i must say i enjoyed this project even tho it was short. I was given 3 module projects this semester to work on and this was the shortest one. so perhaps thats why there isnt "enough" work (as you said) put into it. But i have to prioritise and at the end of the day i was only asked to animate that short clip, come up with a short storyboard and some character designs, i had other ideas for the project, funny comic ideas that didnt make the final cut, that perhaps a Sheephook yanks the actor off stage at the end of the line ( cause hes no good for the part ). like i said i could have went deeper into the project, but why waste my time getting bogged down with it, when im only geting graded on the basic's ... the lip sync. at the end of the day the foundations of a character are in place and its now something i can go back too at any stage in my life. P.S - i realise this is the "Product Design Forums" but i know there is other content on here non-ID related. i also love the community and the quick responce you get back once you upload some work. everyone is helping each other with ideas, crit, and ways to improve. something you might not find on other forums. so yea ... hope its still ok to be uploading the multi discipline work i upload here, weather it be, ID, Animation, Caracter design what ever im working on.

the character is a Gate keeper, who's anoyed about people coming to see the resurection of Lazrus, case they trample all over his garden and lawn. so he charges people money to see the mirecal. i had an idea to instead of the background being a garden and cemertary scene, i wanted to go more for an Audition style. so this character is an actor screen testing to get the Part.. so in the background u might see a sign or something saying, Auditions for "The Resurection of Lazrus" and perhaps a " * Rec " flashing in the top right of the screen" all i have to animate is a 3 sec line of the guy saying " That will be, Ten pence to get in" im being marked on how good the lip sync is. not the character himself or anything else. but i do have ideas, research, storyboards and concepts that all go together for the project. i feel its going very well, and couple people i showed to so far say its looking really good, that the love the character and the lip sync is going very well, that some cartoons dont even have that good a lip sync. not sure what else to say at this point, if u have any more questions feel free to ask. below is what ive been working on so far.

compare the two, used original sketch as an underlay to work off from. added shadow and higlight details etc split head into seprate layers so its ready to animate remember this is a lip sync exercise project.

yea i think i know what u mean, il try and watch out for that. it shouldnt really matter tho, cause these are just Sample research work. the finished work will be computerised in either Photoshop or more than likely will be Flash. might use some these roughs and photoshop edited ones in flash as undlays to work off from.

some cartoony charcter design sketchs renderd with trias on marker pad. they look good in person, but crap after i scanned them in also edited one in photoshop (the one with the grey background around the head) il be creating a Flash animation for a Uni project, the main goal of the process is Lip Sync, these all go toward research development. feel free to comment, (shame the detail was lost after the scan in tho) (perhaps il try to rescan them in at a later date)

i created the last one for use on a website based on a local city near to me. the project brief is called "Hello From Belfast" its a project for Uni, the thing is tho i HATE the tutor taking the class, she constanly takes days off and i only have her 1 day a week. i think shes missed around 9 classes out of 13 weeks. she hasnt taught us anything improtant and alot of the class have been complaining to the course director. she has been completly scatter brained and its been very unclear what she actualy wants from us as students in order to pass. so that being, i created this just to shut her up and that i have at least something done to pass the module. im still working on things for it so hopefully by the end it will look ok.
  19. heres an idea, remove the Tip and open the ink cartage, hold the nib of the tip to the ink cartage and let it bleed, soak up the ink a bit. just an idea.

Sadley that itself is another brush - stain's or something. is it a bad thing that your able to name off what brushes i used ? or whats a good way of going about using them for my own work ? i just through this together for my girlfriend as a little graphic for her (made one of the yellow circles look like a girls face, did u notice it ??) even though i began by just messing around with the brushes testing them out etc. below is another one i was messing around with using many different brushes. as you can tell i went for the blood splatter look. i think it turned out quite well fairly realistc, bit gorey tho so i found the crosses toned it down a bit. p.s thanks for your feedback once again, im glad that you take the time to comment on my work.
