Ok, a new year, new sessions, this time we're going for monthly sessions though, to make sure people get enough time to participate if they want.

The subject for the first session is a water kettle. The subject is pretty simple deliberately, so that you can focus on the for example expressing materials or reflections in your sketches. It doesn't matter if you work all digital or pencil or marker or all together, what counts is the end result (which again doesn't need to be more than a quick sketch.. you could go all the way and do a full render, but sketches are the main focus here).

Here's some examples of water kettles:

I think u should do a proper line drawing first.
try to work on da line quality and play with perspective.
imho this topic is ideal to play with ellipses and to draw simple forms with loose
lines.
When doing sketches it's not important to render the whole thing naturalisitc.
It's more important to focus on "what u are talking about" in the drawing, and maybe to render this with simplyfied shading and reflections and keep the other parts more loose. try to make a whole punch of this ideation sketches and only when u know what u are "talking about" in the drawing make your attenpts on rendering.
think this will improve ur formal-skills a lot more!
keep on rockin'

Well, there are some problems in your sketch and render that have to do with the perspective. I will try to show you what I mean later.
The colouring is much better though, but, you made a nice reflection of the handle (good observation, the reflection is indeed much shorter), but you forgot the reflection of the mouth of the kettle. (oh and it is spelled monthly instead of montly msn-wink.gif )

Glad to see the sketch session up again. Here is my contribution, this is great for practice!

This concept is mainly focus function and ease of use. By having the handle in the middle will allow greater handling and easier to pour water.

imho the handle should be leaning into the other direction, cos this way you'll have to stretch your arm even more to pour the water/whatever into any cup....

Hey desagree, if you look at the ellipses in the lid and bottom of the kettle, you should have the long axis of the ellips running horizontally, not in an angle original.gif

I dont know about you, but I would prefer to use the least effort to operate things, ie I am trying to reduce the physical work with the design.

Look at the 2 reference images on the top, both handles curve in the oposite direction.

I actually made the kettle out of LEGO and test it out while drawing. heh

Yeah Where is your kettle sketch? let see some more peoples! I wanna see a metallic render with traditional media!

uh? oh! right! well eh, i wanted to give it a kind of dynamic expression (btw. the overall perspective is quite messy...)
does this excuse work? biggrinsmiley.gif

ok, truth: i did`t care, but if i have the time i`ll try to do a new sketch with a little more attention.
