I created this 3D model of snowboard bindings for one of my Alias modeling class at the Academy of Art University. The design phase lasted only a week and most of the details and refinements were then figured out through 3D modeling. All parts were meticulously designed with manufacturing constraints as the main design element.

Aparently there are more than 900 views but not a single reply. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

well spotted, the skate board is very thin, for this type of product you would definitely require structural analysis work to make sure the skate board does not break depending on the type of weight of the user, that's the a design consideration you might want to take in to account, i was wondering what sort of material would you use for the skate board if you decided to manufacture it?, are you planning on getting this manufactured? nice work. |

Nice modelling. I know how difficult the snowboard bindings can be, I have designed/modelled a set of Rome 360`s using Pro-engineer. I love snowboarding. Let me know if you can share the STEP/IGES files, I would love to see how your modelling in Alias compares to my proe.
Now you got me dreaming of being on the slopes again!!! -------------------- Skint

Nice model I can say for the bindings
I am curious about the design process a little..the main brief..was it only a modelling exercise or an improvement on current bindings?..e.g. I can see you have devised a pocket for the strap adjusters. For the base plate and the back plate what were the constraints? -------------------- A commodity is, in the first place, an object outside us, a thing that by its properties satisfies human wants of some sort or another.
A thing can have a use-value, without having value in an another sense |

First off let it be known to everyone that this is a "snowboard" and all he has designed are the "bindings" to it... your renderings are good but the bindings seem to be a little to simplistic. This looks like a binding which is already in production. Give it some flare to make it stand out from what is already being made. Maybe something to do with the straps, the strap design for bindings has been nearly unchanged for a few years now. But overall really good work.

Here is a link to my website where you can download a "Quick Time View Real" of the 3D model's wireframe. For those of you who do not known what a quick time VR is: it's an interactive turntable video file. You do need Quick Time to open this file! http://www.thomasbalaguer.com/Download.html |

This is excellent work, I see people giving good feedback and for sure they have some good points to make. But the quality of your work ups and final renders is very good. I remember at uni not that long away, ok 10 years but the standard of the classes rendering was not even close to this.
You said you only worked on the concept for a sort time, I think you need to stretch the concept stage and think about things link the forces involved in use. Remember if you can come up with a simple development from the way something works at present (existing products on market) you could be in a position to sell so always try to stretch technology as well as aesthetics. Keep up the good work. |
