Hello everybody ,I am an asian student . I designed a clamshell mouse,it's different to the Arc Mouse of microsoft.
A part of the mouse is made of soft material (such as silica gel). And the steel buttons can lock the support rods.Press the two buttons same time can unlock the support rods. The mouse uses an AA battery, and I will design another clamshell mouse uses two AAA batteries. It's my first works ,could anyone here give me
some suggestions, such as improve it ,and how to make it to be the real mouse, and so on.Thank you very much!

What programs did you used for render & model it?

IMHO the metal parts on the sides isn't a good idea... I like all the rest...

Bye

agree, the metal part makes it look dangerous.

And great rendering, your work is great!

However, with the whole design, it doesnt look comfortable, compare to a microsoft wireless mouse.

The renderings look really good, would be interested to know what program you did them in?

Unfortunately I really don't like the design. The main body of the mouse looks very much like an old mouse I used back 10 years ago, very boxy buttons. It seems that you havent even considered ergonomics in this design. The unit would hold your wrist in a very uncomfortable posture that I doubt id be able to hold for longer than 30 mins. The front of the mouse isn't really curved enough width ways so that your fingers don't wrap around the unit, which not only would make it more comfortable but also easier to grip. I have looked at the arc mouse and there is a major difference between yours and microsofts design, theirs lies flatter on the table and once folded out forms a continuous arc. Your design has a steep arc then a sudden change in angle. The front section on the arc mouse is also thicker allowing the little finger and thumb to grip either side of the unit, yours is far too thin.

There is also a mismatch in form between the flat straight boxy front section and the curved soft back section, it just doesn't fit together that well.

My advice to you would be to look into the ergonomics of using a mouse, how should you hold your hand (in a neautral position). If you want to draw inspiration from the arc mouse then really consider why they have made things specific thicknesses and sizes and shapes.

i think microsoft designed their mouse like that for a reason, I think as in the current shape of the mouse, there is a limit on how small you can go, and smaller does not equal more comfortable.

i like the renderings but i think the design is slightly muddled.....in that, the future of the mouse if 'less is more' this is aparent on macbook (2008 models) trackpad. The use of gestures and areas are better in many ways that individual buttons. However, perhaps your design would be better for gamers perhaps?

good work tho :-)

that thing looks like it could kill someone...

and also i have a feeling that wouldnt fit into any persons room.
Mainly due to the color and material choices.
Nor would it fit with any of their existing gear...

People like to match their belongings.
Usually if someone has a black monitor, then they probably also have a black keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc etc.

Aside from that.
Your mouse doesnt look to be very ergonomic.
It hard to tell from renders, but have your tried making a mockup of your mouse out of yellow or blue foam?
Usually by doing so, you can answer some questions on your own such as:
'does this feel good in my hands'
'is it easy to click the buttons wihtout causin strain'
'is it easy to slide the mouse around without tipping it over'
etc etc

also, i am assuming you want two AAA batteries in hope to make it thinner?
i would stick with one AA because, just on a personal preference, i dont want to have to carry around two when i could carry one.

It does look a little like a mouse trap!

I have a pretty small Logitech wireless mouse which uses one AAA, and if you can manage to make it no larger than that You might be OK on ergonomics. I am still trying to understand what the advantage of the clamshell is, but I do agree, the rendering is tight.
